Coil: Call of the Sirens. On a slippery dock, or a jagged rock in fabulous frocks, DeLuca’s powerful sound is languorously magnified with elastic hips and fluid hands of Rialto. Coil is an intense and luscious kaleidoscope for the senses!
COIL. Classically trained clarinetist Laurie DeLuca, paired with belly dancer and costumer, Lesley Rialto. Sinking into our story and lengthening each note, Coil is and ever- evolving kaleidoscope for the senses! This intense, luscious duet portrays everything from a raunchy stripper vignette to a rolling tantric lullaby with dignity and humor. DeLuca’s powerful sound is languorously magnified with elastic hips and fluid hands of Rialto. Scaling to heights of 3000 feet, this dynamic duo has created extreme performance art videos, taught at a children’s summers camp, and busked at Folklife, delighting all ages, and a multi -species of audiences with their sense of spontaneity.
Laurie DeLuca is a classically trained clarinetist and pianist. A seasoned member of the Seattle Symphony, and Seattle Chamber Players, she has graced the stages of Seattle and has traveled the world in performances of orchestral, chamber and contemporary music. This exuberant clarinetist adorned in full regalia has busted out of the orchestra pit, and immerses us in the sinewy sounds of music inspired by the Silk Road and beyond. Laurie brings her “customary expressive artistry” to this unique project!
“The incidental music by Olivero is written for string quartet and clarinets (alto and bass), which were played heroically by Seattle clarinet goddess Laura DeLuca. The score is remarkable for its variety, from dissonance to klezmer joy to Renaissance courtliness.”
John Sutherland, Seattle Times
Lesley Rialto has been belly dancing and enthralling Seattle audiences for half her life. A master of delicate hand movements, tension shimmies and belly rolls, Lesley delivers her art with dignity, sensuality and grace. Her personable style and generous heart delight people of all ages. Her bodacious musical taste stretches from typical Middle Eastern music to Led Zeppelin,
Tan Dun and Ravel. Lesley makes all her own costumes, lavishly beaded by hand and meticulously oranamented. These have been shown in local museums. She is bending over backwards in Haute Couture and makes it look easy!
“Lesley moves with a fluid animal grace." Therese Moriarty
"Based on our many years of travel throughout the near and Middle East, Lesley Rialto is one of the very best Belly Dancers we have had the pleasure to watch perform." Rick and Shelby Mosolf
"Maravillosa como un diosa!" Patty Karam
