With a delivery that often cuts straight to the bone, Yucca Mountain represents a new take on the darker side of Pacific Northwest Americana.

Seattle, a city dripping, shrouded in fog and lacking in light has launched mournful singers before but in a town now devoted to stomp-core and good-old-time-sing-alongs, Yucca Mountain is one of the few local bands that remember the beauty of a murder ballad done properly.

Songwriter Jeremy Burk’s 2009 solo album, I Hope You Find What You’re Looking For, was released to a widely receptive audience, and the consistent airplay it received on KEXP in Seattle and KUGS in Bellingham, including live in-studio performances at both stations, put him and his band on the radar of new fans all over Washington. Jeremy and his ensemble, now coalesced under the band name Yucca Mountain, have played a number of memorable gigs the last few years, including opening for Frank Turner’s first Seattle performance at the High Dive, with Deer Tick and Joe Pug at the Tractor Tavern, with Fences at the Crocodile, and quite a few of Levi Fuller’s Ball of Wax shows at the Sunset and Colombia City Theater.

Yucca Mountain is releasing a new 7-song album recorded in a cabin in Index, Washington. Producer and band-member Matthew Gephart, along with engineer Paul Bowman, set up the band in an A-frame along the Skykomish River to record live full-band takes, resulting in a set of songs showcasing the group’s orchestral cohesion. The rhythm section of William Davis on bass and Eric Wick on Drums has been playing with Burk going back nearly ten years, performing with The Going Rate in the mid-2000s. As that band broke up and Jeremy’s solo album gained traction, they eventually solidified the on-stage lineup by adding guitar player Shaye Straw (ex-Juhu Beach), lapsteel player Sam Bisset and baritone guitar/mandolin player Matthew Gephart full time.

Yucca Mountain will release their self-titled album in February and will play regionally in support throughout 2014.
