Rebel Rae

R&B Soulstress Rebel Rae

Rebel Rae was born Aug 24th, 1993, in the DMV also known as DC, Maryland, Virginia. This culturally diverse play ground would set the tone for an Artist prepared to unite generations of individuals as one. From an early age music was predominate in Rae’s life, always aiming to be like her older sister at the age of 6 she begged her parents to start her in Piano lessons. Though those didn’t go as planed because Rae often spent more time learning the Lyrics then playing the song.

Rae spent her summers with her grandparents splitting time between, Kansas City, KS where her Grandma was a fixture in the local church choir and St.Louis, MO where her Grandfather was a Band Director and still is a very skilled Jazz Musician. Her Grandpa would be her driving force in pursuing music insisting that her voice was her instrument, Rae returned to D.C and enrolled in Vocal Lessons.

When Rae was Ten her 5th grade teacher took a special interest in her writing abilities particularly poetry. Rae quickly learned that this skill melted perfectly with her love for singing. Singing and Writing became the only way to pass the time. Soon Rae started to focus on the performance aspect of entertaining. She loved to put on a show, which meant joining any activity that gave her the opportunity to do so.

Going into Jr. High Rae found that school theater would be a way to channel all of her lessons into one place. Entering High School Rae quickly realized that theater wouldn’t be a possibility if she wanted to pursue her other interest and soon decided on a much bigger way to indulge her love of music and preforming. By her Sophomore year Rae would have exactly that. While in school she was involved as class officer, and athlete but on weekends and some weekdays Rae took the four hour trip up to NYC to audition for her ultimate, Broadway. Rae went on to spend one week in NYC the Summer of 2009 competing with 1,000s of kids in a week long showcase called IMTA. A lot happened in this week but most importantly would be her duet performance singing an original song, where Rae would get her first taste of what it would be like to sing for a living.

That was the summer that ignited a flame. She returned home determined to do whatever it took to become the best singer- song writer she could be. Immersing herself in the GoGo sounds of DC, learning to play guitar, and writing every chance she had.
